Gold theft lands two friends in court

Two women, Damilola Adebayo, 24, and Taiwo Ilesanmi, 29, have appeared before an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting at Oke-Eda for allegedly stealing gold and cash.
The defendants allegedly committed the offence on June 5, 2024, at about 7:00 am at Jeje Junction, Danjuma, Akure, in the Akure Magisterial District.
They are facing a four-count charge of felony, conspiracy, stealing, assault, and malicious damage, were arraigned before Magistrate Temilola Olusola-Olujobi.
The prosecutor, Inspector Oniyere Taiwo, told the court that the defendants conspired with others at large to steal one gold necklace valued at N210,000 and N179,470 cash, adding that they also allegedly willfully and unlawfully damaged a burglary door valued at N20,000, total valued at N409,000, property of one Temidayo Akeredolu.
According to him, the defendants assaulted the victim, Temidayo, by hitting her forehead with a padlock, causing her grievous harm, which contravenes Sections 516, 451, 335, and 390(9)(b) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37,

The defendants who were charged with alleged stealing, pleaded not guilty to the offence preferred against them.
The prosecutor prayed for an adjournment of the case to review the case file.
The defence counsel, Clement Falana, prayed the court to grant his clients bail in the most liberal terms, promising that the defendants would provide credible and reliable sureties.
In her ruling, Magistrate Temilola Olusola-Olujobi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She added that the sureties must present tax evidence for two years, while their passport photographs should be included.
Olusola-Olujobi ordered the remand of the defendants in police custody, pending the perfection of their bail.
She adjourned the case till July 30, for a hearing.
