Goldsmith nabbed for supplying guns to robbers

Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr Amba Azuquo, has confirmed the  arrest of two persons in connection with a case of manufacturing guns and catridges, fabricating they allegedly supplied  to armed robbers.

Briefing newsmen on the matter, the police boss said the suspects; Toba Oriola , 45 and Ojo Ayodeji, 22,  were recently arrested at Iropora Ekiti by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) attached to the command, during a routine operation in the area.

Azuquo explained that investigations carried out by the police revealed that the suspects who are goldsmiths allegedly fabricated guns and cartridges and thereafter supplied the six-gang armed robbery suspects that were recently arrested in the area.

He disclosed that the suspects were fully aware that the armed robbery suspects were using the guns and cartridges to commit armed robbery in the community and other parts of Ekiti state.

He said  the suspects who are currently undergoing interrogations in the custody of the command have made confessional statements  to the commission of the crime.

Items recovered from the suspects, according to the police include: one double barrel gun, eight single barrel gun, three cut to small size barrels, welding machine, two drilling machines, two machets, one live cartridge, and one UTC axe.

Azuquo, further explained that the suspects would be charged to court for proper prosecution, as soon as investigation on the matter is concluded.

The Ekiti State police helmsman, however, enjoined all residents of the state to be security conscious and vigilant, urging them to report any  incident or happening observed in their localities to the nearest police stations in their environment.
