‘Good parenting outweighs better school’
By Francis Akinnodi
A counselor, Mrs. Marcella Kola-Praiseworth has said good parenting is more important than a good school to the academic success of a child.
Kola-Praiseworth made this known during the launch of her book titled ‘Kids, For Young goats not for God’s heritage’, in Akure last weekend.
She urged parents to stop calling their children kids because kids mean young goats.
“I initially felt uncomfortable with the title of this book, ‘Kids for Young Goats and not for God’s heritage’. However, I had a change of mind after reading the manuscript as I found very valuable instructions for parents as well as the great value God places on children.
“The matter of kid is typical. Why should precious children be equated to goats in language. Children are God’s heritage according to the Bible.
“It’s unfair, if not sinful to class our children with goats in the universal slang.”
She called for awareness and workshop for parents especially the young parents on the word to use on their children.
“Parents are the best teachers of every child. Children learn moral values, manners, discipline everything from home. It’s their good upbringing which helps them succeed in the future.
“Children are indeed the future of our society, but they can only be effective and successful leaders when they are given the right foundation,” she said.
