Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, yesterday ordered the 18 Local Government Chairmen in the state to put in place local security guards known as Vigilante in their various domains to protect lives and property in the grassroots.

According to the Governor, the vigilantes would be trained either by the Amotekun Corps and other security agencies in the state.

Akeredolu spoke while playing host to the local government chairmen led by the State’s ALGON Chairman, Mr. Augustine Oloruntogbe, who were on a sympathetic visit to the Governor in his office.

Governor Akeredolu assured the people of the state that his administration remains undeterred, and would continue to fight insecurity and always be on the path of truth.

He said what happened in Owo on Sunday was tragic beyond any sense of decency, describing it as painful, alarming and serious assault on humanity.

“You can’t fathom what this mindless terrorists did in that church. It is not possible for you to imagine it until you are able to get there. To make matters worst, if you have opportunity of visiting the hospital facilities where a couple of victims who are being treated  are, you cannot but weep.

“I can not still fathom the reason behind this attack. Are they antichrist?  They went into the church to kill. Are they anti catholic or are they anti-Owo that they chosed to come to Owo. One can not understand it”, Akeredolu stated.

The governor said the time has come for every local government to have its own vigilante group to complement the effort of the Amotekun Corps and other security agencies.

“We have a challenge. Sit down among yourselves and work it out, how do you have local government vigilantes. It is important. Gather your hunters and men who still possess some powers, and let them go into the bush”, he added.

Earlier, the ALGON Chairman and chairman, Akoko South-West Local Government,, Mr. Augustine Oloruntogbe commiserated with the governor and people of the state over the ugly incident.
