Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has said his administration would make the people of the state proud despite the dwindling resources.
Akeredolu explained that his major drive has been mainly about service, adding that the development of the state and the people is his top priority.
The Governor made this known while featuring on a Channels TV programme (Politics Today), in reaction to the Supreme Court judgment which upheld his victory at the October 10, 2020 governorship election.
The Governor said the people of the state understand his passion and commitment to the development of the sunshine state. He noted that the massive projects commissioned in the first 100 days of his second term attested to his commitment to serving and developing the state.
The Apex Court, in a majority judgment delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim, four of the seven-member panel had dismissed the appeal by Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the ground that it was incompetent.
Akeredolu who hailed the court, explained that from the Tribunal to the Supreme Court, twelve judges have ruled in his favour and three against him.
The Governor also called on Mr Eyitayo Jegede to work together with him in developing the state.
“We just got the news of the final decision of the final court on the election petition filed by my brother, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN. As you all have heard, the Supreme Court dismissed his appeal on four to three basis.
“And that in essence is that, from the Tribunal up to the Supreme Court, the Justices have affirmed that the petition was most frivolous. In that, as you know, twelve justices affirmed in our favour and only three supported that petition.
“Twelve Justices affirmed in our favour: three at the Tribunal, five at the Court of Appeal and four at the Supreme Court. So, I have every reason to thank God and appreciate the judiciary for standing by the truth and for not yielding to any influence.
“I believe that we can still be proud of our Judiciary in this country. For me, it is an opportunity again for us to get on board and do more work, and for me the glory of this victory of this Election Petition success, is to God Almighty.
“And I want to thank the legal team that represented us. We have so many Senior Advocates of Nigeria in the team but I will probably mention a few of them. I want to thank the INEC Team led by Charles Edosomwan, SAN.
“We thank also the APC Team led by Lateef Fagbemi, SAN and others including Sola Oke, SAN. I want to thank my team , there are so many SANs,led by Chief Akinlolu Olujimi for their wonderful work. I think that we have to put this behind now and get to work,” he added.
Akeredolu added that his election victory was unprecedented having won 15 local government areas and beating his main challenger, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, with over 90,000 votes.
