Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, yesterday tested positive to coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19.
Akeredolu in a broadcast on the social media earlier yesterday confirmed the development just as he promised to continue performing his official duties while in self-isolation.
He also directed 10 of his personal aides, five commissioners and 14 out of 19 Assembly members to go for the test and undergo compulsory 14 days isolation.
His words: “Earlier today, I got confirmation of a positive result for COVID-19. I am asymptomatic and not displaying any symptoms. I am currently self-isolating and supervised home management will be administered by the wonderful team at our Infectious Disease Hospital. I ask that we all stay safe and be well.”
“My good people of Ondo state, it gives me great pleasure to address you at this moment. I had malaria few days ago and was treated and I did get over it. And as at the time we had our party NEC, and my colleagues called on me and I spoke with one of them who felt that malaria should not be just treated lightly but that I should go ahead and have a test for COVID -19.
“The result came out today June 30, 2020 and I tested positive but asytomatic. I am not feeling sick neither am I feeling hot in anyway, but my doctors have advised that I should take the normal treatment and self isolate.
“I believe that supervised home management will be ideal for me now. So, for now, I will be isolated and go on with the supervised home management. Let me assure our people that as you can see me, there are many of us like this that don’t have the symptoms, it is there and you cannot see it.
“In few days time we will conduct another test and we will know the result. Let me assure our people that the work is going on. Here at home attending to files is normal thing I do, and there is nothing that will stop the work from going on.
“I want to plead with my political associates that they should continue with the project. We are sure to win. As you know I’m gifted to get through to my destination, knowing that I’m a man with special gift. My trust in God is to get through this is unshaking.”
“So, I thank God and I pray to God for His hands of healing to remain on us. Please my people, if you have malaria or other things get tested. I thank God for the discovery of this on time.
“This is your Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, and your own Arakunrin,” he added.
Meanwhile, three of his co-aspirants, Chief Olusola Oke, Isaac Kekemeke and Olajide Adelami have sent getwell messages to the governor.
A statement personally singed by Oke prayed for Akeredolu’s soonest recovery and charged the people of the state to obey all precautionary measures handed down by medical experts and NCDC.
Also Ademola Ijabiyi who signed for Kekemeke group commended Akeredolu for his early disclosure and decision to self-isolate.
