Governor Alia commissions four factories to boost Benue’s economy

By Henry Iyorkase, Makurdi

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to industrialising the state as part of efforts to boost the economy and increase internally generated revenue (IGR) for sustainable development.

This was announced during the commissioning of four factories established under his administration through the Benue Investment and Property Management Company (BIPC) Limited. The Managing Director of BIPC, Dr Raymond Asemakaha, oversaw the project.

Represented by the Commissioner for Trade and Industry, Hon. Alumo Orpin, Governor Alia emphasised that the new factories would provide jobs for youths and enhance economic growth. The event took place on Thursday in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Orpin revealed that the commissioned factories include a polythene and nylon bag factory, a nails factory, and the expansion of bread and water production facilities. He noted that these projects aim to create employment opportunities and enhance IGR, thereby accelerating development in the state.

According to the commissioner, the initiative is a step towards making the state self-reliant.

He urged residents to sustain the projects’ legacies, stating, “These projects represent more than mere industrial expansion; they symbolise hope, progress, and this administration’s determination to uplift lives now and in the future.”

Earlier, BIPC Managing Director Dr Raymond Asemakaha expressed gratitude to the guests, describing the event as a milestone in Benue’s journey towards economic growth. He disclosed that the commissioned projects had already created over 400 jobs since the inception of Governor Alia’s administration.

“In addition to stimulating economic activities, these factories underscore our commitment to driving development and ensuring the prosperity of Benue State,” he stated.
