Govt proposes bill to establish State Capital Territory Development Authority

The Ekiti State Government has proposed a bill for the establishment of the Ekiti State Capital Territory Development Authority.
The bill has been submitted to the State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and eventual passage into law.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji made this known during a meeting with stakeholders, held at the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti.
The initiative, spearheaded by Governor Oyebanji’s administration, aligns with the government’s commitment to accelerate development across the state and establish a long-term framework for sustainable urban growth.
According to the proposal, the new Authority will collaborate with relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), to coordinate strategic planning and development within the designated capital territory.
“Its core responsibilities will include developing and implementing an updated Master Plan for the Ekiti State Capital Territory in collaboration with MDAs, supervising and enforcing the execution of the Master Plan and other related planning initiatives.
“Coordinating the growth and development of satellite towns within the territory, overseeing the construction and renovation of tertiary roads in designated areas.
“Monitoring the cleaning and maintenance of roads and drainage systems and advising the governor on key developmental matters concerning the capital territory
“Driving Smart City initiatives by integrating technology into public services, transportation systems, and data-driven decision-making.
The Authority will also undertake any additional duties assigned by the governor.
Oyebanji emphasised that the proposed law reflects his administration’s vision to transform Ekiti into a modern, livable, and business-friendly state with sustainable infrastructure and efficient governance structures.
