Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 75-year old man, a 60-year old grandmother, and several other suspects in a nationwide operation targeting illicit drug dealers and traffickers.
According to the agency, Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the grandpa was arrested at Ovum village, Obingwa LGA, Abia State with 4.7kg skunk seized from him, while a 60-year-old grandma, Aukana John, was nabbed with 225 grams of same substance at Apanta village, in the same Local Government are
In Lagos, NDLEA operatives arrested Oyonumoh Glory Effiong, a mother of two and major distributor of Canadian and California Loud across Lekki, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and Ajah.
The raid at her Lekki residence led to the recovery of 500 grams of the illicit drug.
Other seizures include 275 litres of skuchies — a mixture of blackcurrant drink, cannabis, and opioids — recovered from Ogunyabo Adenigbigbe in Ikorodu.
The Hope Metro reports that in recent weeks, the agency had uncovered several drug concealment attempts, including cocaine hidden in body cream containers bound for the United Kingdom and methamphetamine packed in herbal tea sachets at airports in Lagos and Enugu.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) commended officers across the commands for their commitment, urging them to sustain the agency’s offensive against drug traffickers and its ongoing War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign nationwide.
“While commending the officers and men of MMIA, AIIA, Lagos, Kwara, Abia, Nasarawa, Kogi, Ondo, Anambra, Taraba, Kaduna, Seme and Zamfara Commands for the arrests and seizures, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) urged them and their colleagues across the country to continue with the ongoing balanced approach to the drug control efforts of the Agency.”
