Grasscutter farmers in Ondo State have solicited for the assistance of the state government in the area of fund to enable them boost their production and improve the state’s economy.
Emphasising that fund is the major challenge confronting the development of grasscutter business in the state, Chairman of Grasscutter Farmers Association of Nigeria, Ondo state chapter, Pastor Oluwatoyin Olandamilare, said the association cannot meet the demand for the animal in the country.
According to him, the association has not benefited from any assistance either from government or any other organisation.
While noting that grasscutter rearing domestically can create employment for the teeming youths and can make them self reliant so far there is fund, Olandamilare said the business requires a lot of fund.
According to him, countries like Ghana and Republic of Benin have gone far in grasscutter rearing, noting that the association bought the family that they now rear from the latter.
To rear grasscutter domestically, he said the environment must be conducive and the person must be a lover of the animal, since it requires a lot of care.
