Grassroots Football Tourney: Ijapo Ages Stars, Acomoran to finish abandoned match

In a bid to ensure peace and tranquility among the participants of the ongoing “Hon. Sunday Olajide Unity Cup”, Ijapo Ages Stars FC and Acomoran FC have agreed to continue their abandoned quarter final.

Both sides agreed to continue the match on Sunday morning following the intervention of the Akure South Football Association (FA) in a meeting held at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.

The quarter final between both sides were abandoned when there was an encroachment and intimidation of the match officials.

The Chairman of Akure South Local government (FA), Mr Yomi Ogunlade pleaded with both sides to continue and end the match in the spirit of sportsmanship and the love of the game.

He said, “football is supposed to be fostering unity and not instrument of division,on this note, I plead with all of us to continue our brotherly love for the progress of our state and the country at large.

“We have to be mindful of any character that will make people to see footballers and its administrators as hooligans and on serious people.”

The Chief organiser, Mr Ayokunle Oluwatope appealed to both sides to continue the game. He assured the referees of maximum security in the cause of the competition.

He said, “We will continue to learn more as we grow, we are not perfect, we all saw what happened during the draws of the Champions league, where the organisers UEFA made a big error that was part of the imperfection we are talking about.

“All we are doing was to keep our youth busy and giving them a promising future through their talents, all the teams should be rest assured that there will be a fair playing ground for all,” he said.
