The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ondo State on Political Matters, Mr Smart Omodunbi, has described Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s recent disbursement of ₦1.4 billion to 2014 retirees as a demonstration of transparent and accountable leadership.
Omodunbi, in an interview with The Hope in Akure, said the gesture reinforced the public’s trust in the state government and its commitment to fulfilling long-standing obligations to civil servants.
He said, “What Governor Aiyedatiwa has done is significant because it restores confidence in governance. These retirees served Ondo State for decades, and some have been waiting for years for their benefits. By ensuring that the gratuities are paid, including to widows and widowers of deceased retirees, the governor has shown fairness and respect for public service.”
He noted that the payment went beyond financial assistance, describing it as a moral and social responsibility fulfilled by the administration.
“This is about recognising hard work, patience, and loyalty. The governor has demonstrated that public service is valued and that the people come first in his administration,” Omodunbi said.
Omodunbi also highlighted that the governor’s commitment to welfare and development extends across the state under the EES agenda, with projects and programmes reaching every community.
On political mobilisation for the 2027 elections, he said his office was already actively working to secure support for both Governor Aiyedatiwa and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
“We are preparing for massive mobilisation across the 18 local governments, 203 wards, and 3,933 polling units. Elections are won at the grassroots level, and our aim is to ensure that the people understand the value of supporting leaders who deliver on their promises,” he said.
He also urged citizens to actively participate in politics, stressing that political engagement is key to ensuring accountability and good governance.
“If wise men refuse to participate in politics, foolish men will dominate, making laws and decisions that affect everyone. It is crucial for our people to vote, to support credible leaders, and to ensure that democracy works for them,” Omodunbi said.
He concluded by emphasising that the Aiyedatiwa administration rejects divisive and toxic politics in favour of service-oriented governance.
“Mr Governor leads with integrity, compassion, and results. This is the leadership that Ondo State needs, and the people can see it in action,” Omodunbi added.
