Great grandmother, father docked over 2 years old rape

The police in the Ekiti State Command, on Tuesday, arraigned a 60-year-old great grandmother, Deborah Ajisegbede and one Ola Sunday, 21 on a two count charge of alleged conspiracy and rape of a 2-year-old daughter.
According to the Investigating Police Officer, Insp. Opeyemi Osayinro, told the court that the offence was committed on June 27 in Erinmope Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti.
Narrating the incident to the court, the IPO said that the great grandmother of the victim, who has been medically confirmed to be nursing High Blood Pressure (HBP) ailment usually releases the baby to her father every night, while the man returns her in the morning, due to her health condition.
“The great grandmother later discovered that the girl usually experienced pains in her private part while bathing for her. So, she took her to a Primary Health Centre for check and probably treatment,” he said..
To her amazement, she was told that her grand daughter’s private part have allegedly been tampered with.
The IPO further told the court that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Otun Ekiti, stepped into the matter when he got an anonymous call from the health centre in the town reporting the matter and soliciting the intervention of the police.
He said that the offence contravened Section 31(2) of Child’s Right Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefumike Anoma, frowned at the incessant mismanagement of the care and welfare of a child as well as carelessness of some parents and families.
Anoma observed that this had led to increase in assaulting and defiling minors in the society.
She therefore granted the great grandmother bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum on health condition, while she ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Nigeria Correctional Centre pending issuance of legal advice.
But the Chief Magistrate also ordered the arrest of the grandmother, father-in-law and the mother of the victim over alleged negligence and culpability in the case.
She, therefore adjourned the case till August.12 for mention.
Meanwhile, the same court on Tuesday remanded a 29-year-old man, Olaleye Ayo, in the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti over alleged rape of a single mother.
The police prosecutor, Insp.Monica Ikebuilo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 29 in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.
Ikebuilo alleged that Olaleye, who works as a security guard in a private company, lured the mentally challenged victim into his room and molested her.
Ikebuilo said the offence was punishable under 2(2) of the Ekiti State Gender Bases Violence (Prohibition) Law, 2019.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in the Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) .
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefumike Anoma, ordered the remand of the defendant in the correctional centre pending issuance of legal advice and adjourned the case till August 12 for mention.
