Gridlock as petrol tanker overturns in Ore
By Kayode Afolabi, Ore
A petrol-laden tanker on Saturday overturned at the inter-change bridge in Ore causing gridlock for several hours on the highway.
Hope Metro gathered that the unmarked truck while trying to negotiate a bend on the road reportedly overturned.
The tanker spilled it contents (petrol) which flowed towards the road under the Ore bridge.
It took the intervention of some residents within the area who ensured that no one scoop the content in order to avert explosion.
For several hours, motorists and travellers plying the Ore-Lagos/Benin expressway were held in traffic jam, as the lane from Benin was barricaded to prevent vehicles driving on the spilled petrol.
Our correspondent who visited the scene observed that the petrol tanker was coming from the Benin -Ore axis.
An eyewitness who spoke with our correspondent said that the incident happened around 6am.
Some security agents were fully on ground to control the diversion, as motorists coming from Lagos and Benin highway had to struggle to drive through a side of the road.
