Group calls for unity, integrity, moral revival to tackle Nigeria’s challenges

Amidst Nigeria’s ongoing economic and social difficulties, the National President of Zumratul Islamiyya Society of Nigeria (ZISN), Engr. Mutiu Gbajumo, has called on Nigerians to embrace integrity, peace, and love as essential values for national transformation.

Speaking at the 9th National Triennial Conference of the Society held in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Gbajumo emphasised the need for collective responsibility in confronting the country’s economic hardship, growing insecurity, and moral decline, especially among the youth.

“We must face the challenges of economic struggles, social injustice, and moral erosion with wisdom, unity, and unwavering faith in Allah’s guidance,” he said. “As Muslims, Islam teaches us peace and love—values we must extend to all, regardless of religion or background.”

He urged leaders at all levels to rise to the occasion by addressing the root causes of citizens’ suffering and promoting policies that reflect justice, equity, and compassion.

Gbajumo also highlighted ZISN’s 98-year legacy in promoting both Islamic and Western education, noting that the Society had established numerous schools across the country. He announced the Society’s plan to lay the foundation stone of a N900 million modern Islamic Centre.

In his lecture titled “Gratitude Amidst Scarcity,” Dr. Yunus Anola, Chief Imam of the Khaleel Fawehinmi Mosque at the Ondo State Government House, encouraged Nigerians to remain grateful and manage their resources with faith and patience.

“Scarcity is part of life’s cycle. If we can endure and trust in God, abundance will surely follow,” he said. “Even in hard times, gratitude can lead us to peace of mind and spiritual resilience.”

Also speaking, the National Ameera of ZISN, Alhaja Safuratu Adewale Eleruja, advocated for greater inclusion of women in national development efforts.

“When you build a woman, you build a nation,” she said. “Women are natural nation-builders, and their active participation in development will bring about lasting progress.”

Mr. Balogun Qudus Oladipupo, the Society’s National Secretary, urged Muslim faithful not to view economic hardship as defeat, but as an opportunity to seek solutions and renew their commitment to nation-building.

The conference brought together delegates from across the country and served as a reminder of the role of faith-based organizations in promoting national unity, education, and moral rebirth.
