The Diaspora arm of the Campaign Organisation for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers (LACO-FS), has urged the residents of the state, especially the youths, to support Aiyedatiwa’s aspiration to achieve the dream of restoring the state’s glory.
The group stated this on Sunday, noting that Aiyedatiwa has been championing the socio-economic development of the state and good governance since he was inaugurated as the governor.
The Director of Diaspora Matters for the LACO-FS,. Dare Aliu, who stated this in Akure, said the support became necessary following the governor’s sense of accountability and frugal spending, saying Nigerians abroad have resolved to provide support for his governorship ambition.
He said Aiyedatiwa appears to be the best candidate who can bring about the sustainable development needed to lift Ondo State out of its current pathetic and unfathomable condition.
According to Aliu, necessary arrangements had been made to engage Nigerians of goodwill in the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and other parts of the world to back the election of Aiyedatiwa.
He said this is to enable him to proceed as governor after serving out the tenure of the late former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who died last December.
“Ondo State is indeed lucky to have someone like Governor Aiyedatiwa who has demonstrated frugality and accountability in the spending of public funds, which he first demonstrated by appointing only six cabinet members following the dissolution of the state executive council.
“He apparently did that in recognition of the great implications of the current economic hardship in Nigeria and the need to allocate more funds to social welfare programmes that will alleviate suffering and keep the people empowered.
“Assuredly, such a personality of goodwill risks being denied election by moneybags and egregious politicians, and that is why the rest of us Nigerians living abroad are determined to stand in the gap and ensure that Aiyedatiwa wins both next month’s primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the general election coming up next November,” Aliu said.
Aliu also noted that Aiyedatiwa’s ambition to continue as governor “is God’s own project, and the import is not lost on the rest of us living outside the country.”
He commended the governor for the recent employment of hundreds of youths into the state civil service and the approval of over N3 billion as grants to agricultural programmes to engage farmers and agro-allied professionals with a view to alleviating poverty and improving the home economy.
