Group raises alarm over farmlands destruction

A Socio-political Group, Owo is One has cried out over the unending carnage and destruction to farmlands by Fulani marauders in Owo local government area of Ondo State.

In a statement issued in Owo, the group called for the immediate attention of the federal government to the untold hardship of peasant farmers whose only source of livelihood are being destroyed by herders.

The statement signed by the National Coordinator of the group, Chief Akinboro Aruwajoye asked the President, Muhammadu Buhari to come to the farmers’ aid before they are wiped out due to the criminal activities of herders and kidnappers.

Aruwajoye, the Ogbeni Oja of Owo Kingdom called for the direct intervention of the federal government to lift the siege of Fulani herders and arrest the deteriorating security situation in the ancient kingdom.

In addition, the prominent citizen demanded for compensation to farmers whose source of livelihood had been affected by the rampaging herders.

Aruwajoye warned that unless urgent intervention is done, the provocative activities of the Fulani herders could promote self help which might worsen the existing precarious security situation.

The Group commended the prompt steps already taken by the state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to ameliorate the menace of herders and kidnappers traced to the Fulani herdsmen.

The Group expressed confidence in both the federal and state governments efforts at solving the security challenges posed by Fulani herders without undermining the bond holding the nation and called on the federal government to act fast before it is too late.
