Guard remanded for raping 14-year-old

An Odigbo Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of a 27-year-old security guard, Kola Olawale, at the Okitipupa Correctional Centre, for allegedly raping a 14-year-girl in his house.
Men of the Ondo State Police Command arraigned Olawale before Chief Magistrate D. O Ogunfuyi, on one count charge of rape.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Usifoh James informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 28, 2024, at at Orita Ojo, Odigbo, Ondo State.
Usifoh alleged that the defendant unlawfully had a carnal knowledge of a 14-year-old hawker (name withheld) without her consent by inflicting bodily injury on her hand and tore her dress. But his pleas was not taken.
The charge reads in part, “That you , Kola Olawale, on January 28, 2024, at about 01:55pm at Orita Ojo Via Odigbo in the Ore Magisterial District, did forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of one Olawunmi Olamide without her consent, by inflicting bodily injury on her hand and tore her dress.
According to the charge, the offence contravenes Sections 357 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The prosecutor, therefore, asked the court for permission to send the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice, and urged the court to remand the defendant at the correctional centre.
The defence counsel, Mr V. A Akinfe did not oppose the prosecutor’s request.
Chief Magistrate D. O Ogunfuyi, in his ruling, remanded the defendant at the Okitipupa Correctional Centre pending advice from the DPP.
He adjourned the case till February 21, 2024 for mention.
