Gunmen abduct Customary Court judge, ex-lawmaker in Edo

Gunmen have abducted the President of Igueben Area Customary Court in Edo State, Precious Aigbonoga, in the Igueben Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that Aigbonoga was kidnapped around Ugoneki axis on her way to the court in Igueben LGA on Monday.

In a similar incident, the former Edo State House of Assembly member, Festus Edughele, was also kidnapped on Monday morning by suspected gunmen in Ubiaja while on his way from Orhionmwon to Benin City, the state capital.

Edughele was said to be travelling to Benin to board a plane to Abuja when he was abducted by the gunmen who took him into the bush.

This is coming three days after 32 passengers waiting to board a train from the Igueben station in the Igueben Local Government Area of the state to Warri in Delta State were kidnapped by suspected herdsmen on Saturday evening.

The Customary Court judge, Aigbonoga, is the wife of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Etsako West Constituency 1, Afebu Aigbonoga.

Confirming Aigbonoga’s abduction via a statement issued on Monday, the Publicity Secretary of Benin branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, Festus Osagie, said the NBA had contacted the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Dankwara, over the incident.

“By the grace of God Almighty, His Honour shall be rescued unhurt, and the bandits brought to book, Amen!

“Let us keep His Honour in our prayers, please,” Osagie added.

A former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Festus Ebea, who confirmed Edughele’s abduction said his former colleague intended to board the now suspended train service from Ubiaja to Abuja.

Ebea said, “He was kidnapped this morning in Ubiaja on his way from Orhionmwon to Benin. He had intended to take the train for Ubiaja but he could not do so since the train services had been suspended.

“The family is aware of his kidnap, the police division in that area has been informed and we hope action will be taken to rescue him,” he added.
