Gunmen abduct Sawmillers in Akoko

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, once again struck yesterday, as they abducted two men in Akunnu Akoko in Akoko Northeast Local Government Area of Ondo state.
It will be recalled that about nine days ago, a staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board, (SUBEB) in Abuja was kidnapped along with his younger sister on their way to their home town, in Alade Idanre, while another man was kidnapped on the eve of the postponed elections on his way home to exercise his franchise at Auga Akoko, a distance of less than a kilometre from Akunnu.
The Hope Metro learnt that the abductees, who are sawmillers operating in Akunnu, were kidnapped between Akunnu and Ayere in Kogi State.
According to some eye witnesses, Mrs Kudi Obayan and Mr. Bello Michael, the abductees were three in number in their Honda accord car. The gunmen waylaid them and took two of the occupants into the bush, while the one spared was left alone to break the news to family members for the purpose of ransom negotiation.
It was learnt that a farmer who was in his farm during the abduction, narrated the incident.
According to the farmer, he heard several gunshots along the road and when he got to the scene later, he met the abandoned vehicle and the occupant left behind, who was said to have narrated his ordeals to him.
The police in Akunnu were of the opinion that the spot where the incidence occurred is within Kogi state territory.
Soldiers at Akunnu, vigilante groups and local hunters were reportedly combing the forest to arrest the kidnappers so as to rescue the victims .
Meanwhile, The Hope Metro reliabily gathered that the kidnappers have demanded a ransom of five million naira for the release of the abducted saw millers.
