Gunmen attack commercial bus in Ekiti, injure 3, kidnap many

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have attacked and abducted a commercial driver, along Iju/Itaogbolu/Ikere-Ekiti road, in Ikere local government area of Ekiti State alongside with some passengers in the vehicle.

The commercial driver and his passengers were coming from Ado-Ekiti and heading to Akure, the capital of Ondo State when they were attacked by the suspected kidnappers injured some passengers, and whisked away some to an unknown destination.

It was gathered that  the gunmen numbering about five and armed with guns and other dangerous weapons started shooting sporadically causing the vehicle to run into a dish while the driver and other occupants of the vehicle were whisked away.

The source said some of the injured passengers left behind are currently receiving medical attention at a private health facility in Ikere-Ekiti.

Recounting his ordeal, one of the injured passengers who claimed to be a civil servant, said he escaped from the scene with gunshots. He said he boarded the vehicle from Ado-Ekiti to Akure at about 4:30pm on the fateful day.

He explained that they were attacked by the suspected gunmen at a damaged portion of the road between Ikere-Ekiti and Iju in Ondo State.

Speaking on the matter, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ekiti State Command Mr Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident, said he has not been properly briefed by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area.

Similarly, the Commandant of the Amotekun Corps in Ekiti State, Brigadier Joe Komolafe, said his men and other sister security agencies were combing the bush in the area, and promised that the victims would be rescued  without harm.
