Gunmen attack Sunshine Stars players, officials

Sunshine Stars Football Club of Ondo have been attacked by some gunmen, shooting one person while others were seriously injured on their way to honour match day 13 of the Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL against Bendel Insurance along Ore- Benin road on Thursday.

One of the team’s officials who spoke with Sporting Hope said  it was a kidnap attempt on the team, saying they were  in an undisclosed hospital receiving treatment.

According to him, all we need prayer for our boy who was shot in the stomach, also our Team Manager hit on the head.

The team Media officer , Michael Akintunde in a statement said:’ It saddens our hearts to inform Nigerians , especially football lovers that our team was attacked few minutes ago along Ore-Benin Expressway to honor an Elite League tie , against Insurance of Benin , scheduled for this weekend”.

Our ball boy was shot in the horrible attack, our team manager and other club officials including players were seriously injured”.

“It took the intervention of officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps that helped rescued the injured officials to a nearby hospital.”
