A 40-year-old woman, simply identified as Rhoda Ogunbiyi, has been reportedly abducted by unknown gunmen who invaded her house along Ore/Lagos road in Ondo State.
The woman, reportedly came out of her house at about 10pm to switch off her generator, without knowing that some armed men had laid siege for her.
Reports reaching The Hope Metro indicated that the hoodlums whose number could not be easily ascertained as at press time, immediately whisked her away to an unknown destination.
Police source disclosed that the abductors had earlier contacted the family, demanding N20million ransom for her release, but later brought it down to N12 million after pleading.
As at the time of filing this report, negotiation was said to be ongoing as the criminals refused to reduce the N12 million ransom.
It was learnt that the victim has spent over five days in the kidnappers den as the family is becoming apprehensive over her fate with the marauders.
Meanwhile, a combined team of Police crack detectives with Amotekun Corps, operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigerian Army have been drafted to Ore in Odigbo local Government, combing the bush in search of the victim.
A competent police officer, who confirmed the incident said the whereabouts of the victim was still unknown. But a family source confided in the police that the hoodlums were calling them asking for ransom.
He explained that the kidnappers earlier demanded N20 million but had reduced it to N12 million.
“We are already combing the bushes in Ore axis and as soon as they realize that we are getting close to them, they will release the victim.
” The major problem we are having in our efforts to track the number of the hoodlums are using to contact the family, is that they are using the victims phone for the negotiation. And if you track the number, it is the victim that the tracking will reveal, ” he stated.
Our correspondent’s investigation revealed that, Owo/Uso, Akure /Ilesha, Akoko/Isua roads have become a death trap for victims of kidnappers.
The Deputy registrar of FUTA, Dr Amos Arijesuyo was shot dead while his driver sustained injuries by gunmen who operated along Akure /Ilesha road last week.
In his determination to check the kidnapping upsurge in the state, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has directed all unregistered herders to vacate the forest in the state.
Also outlawed were night grazing and under-aged cattle rustling in the state.
This decision did not go down well with some people who have been reacting to the Governor’s directive.
