Gunmen kidnap driver, passengers in Ekiti

Unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Monday abducted a commercial driver, Mr Dare Ayelabowo alongside with the passengers in Ekiti State.
The incident occurred at about 5:30 pm along Isan/Iye-Ekiti road, in Ilejemeje local government area of the state.
It was gathered they were coming to Ado-Ekiti the capital of Ekiti State when they were attacked and abducted away to an unknown destination.
One of the occupants of the vehicle who escaped from the scene narrated his ordeal and said that he was coming from Ilorin, Kwara State and joined the vehicle from Iye-Ekiti to Ado-Ekiti, when they were accosted by the gunmen.
He said the gunmen numbering about five and armed with gun and other dangerous weapons started shooting sporadically causing their vehicle to enter into a dish in the road.
He explained that immediately their vehicle rammed into the dish and they were all trying get out from the vehicle about five armed men ordered them to move or be killed.
He said he forced his way to stop the engine of the vehicle while the abductors concentrated on him, in that process a victim, Dare Ayelabowo escaped and run away.
“Other occupants of the vehicle were whisked away to unknown destination, few hour later I got a motobike going to Oye-Ekiti where I went to the divisional police station in the town to report the matter.”
He explained that the police from Oye-Ekiti Division who were on patrol had visited the spot of the incident while the vehicle had been taken to police custody.
Meanwhile, the abductors have contacted the family of the victim and demanded for N150,000 million before they can be released.
Confirming the development, the Commander of the Amotekun Security Corps in the State, Brig. Joe Komolafe (rtd) said efforts are on the top gear to secure the release of the victims.
