Gunmen kidnap oil worker, kill driver

Gunmen have abducted an official of Chevron Corporation, Samuel Ekerenam, at Afaha Uqua Obok-Idim road in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

It was gathered that the gunmen also killed Ekerenam’s driver.

The incident was confirmed by the Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.

John disclosed that the incident occurred at the Hephzibah Shopping Mall, owned by Ekerenam in Eket at about 10:55 p.m. on November 23.

The police spokesperson said the gunmen abducted the Chevron official after killing his driver and demoralising his police escort.

“The Commissioner of Police, Mr Joseph Eribo, and his tactical commanders have visited the scene of the crime and efforts are in top gear to rescue the victim unhurt,” John added.

It was further learnt that Ekerenam’s wife, Glory, was kidnapped in Eket on October 17, 2019, and was kept at the kidnapper’s den at Ikot Ubo in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.
