Gunmen kill motorcyclist, injure passenger in Ondo

By Adeboye Ado

A yet-to-be-identified motorcyclist was shot dead by unknown kidnappers on Sunday along the Ikun-Oba road in the Akoko South-West Local Government area of Ondo State.

Reports gathered by The Hope indicated that the passenger being conveyed by the motorcyclist at the time of the incident sustained life-threatening injuries.

An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, explained that a motorist ambushed during the attack managed to escape, although his car was riddled with bullets.

Speaking on the incident, a resident, Rev. Canon Foluso Ogunsuyi, expressed dismay over the development, noting that security operatives had been patrolling the area prior to the tragedy.

“We are surprised to hear that kidnappers have returned to the road. Security operatives had been patrolling the area before the incident,” Ogunsuyi stated.

He, however, urged the government to rehabilitate the Ikun-Oba road, pointing out that the kidnappers easily carry out their nefarious activities at the bad sections of the road.

Confirming the incident, the Regent of Oba-Akoko, Princess Deborah Jacob, called on the government to deploy security operatives to the road, especially ahead of the festive season.

Efforts to speak with the Oba-Akoko Divisional Police Officer were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
