Isan-Ekiti, the hometown of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi was on Thursday thrown into mourning following the death of a commercial motorcyclist who was reportedly killed by yet-to-be identified gunmen along Ilemesho/Isan-Ekiti road, Oye local government area of Ekiti State.
The deceased identified as Abejide Ojo was said to have conveyed a passenger from Isan-Ekiti to Ilemeso Ekiti.
On his way back, he was said to have been waved down by the suspected gunmen who had earlier blocked the road and was asked to take them to a nearby forest in the area.
The deceased was said to have refused and apparently tried to escape from the scene and was shot by the asallailants.
According to another source, the 35-year-old mortocyclist turned down the request of the gunmen and in the process of dragging his motorcycle with him, he escaped from the scene but he was shot.
The deceased who managed to get to Isan-Ekiti with the gunshots wound was said to have explained what transpired between him and the gunmen to people who saw him with blood stains on his body.
According to the source, he was rushed to a private hospital in the community, where he was later confirmed dead by the doctors.
The Police Public Relation Officer, Ekiti State Command, Mr Sunday Abutu, confirmed the report.
Abutu who said he has not been properly briefed about the matter, promised to get back to our correspondent as soon as he receives message from the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area.
