The Orunja of Odigbo Kingdom, Oba Rufus Akinrinmade, has advocated for hand hygiene, saying it is one of the most effective actions to reduce the spread of pathogens and COVID-19 virus.

The monarch, who made this known on Tuesday in his palace when speaking with newsmen, said the World Health Organizationglobal hand hygiene campaign recognises hand washing as one of the most effective actions an individual could take.

“This would reduce the spread of pathogens and prevent infections, including the COVID-19 virus.
“We must continue to sensitise our people especially at the grassroots on hand hygiene; mobilise people around the state to increase adherence to hand hygiene in healthcare facilities, thus protecting healthcare workers and patients from infections.

“Individual proper hygiene would go a long way in fighting the COVID-19 epidemic and other related infections around. Global community needs to fight COVID-19 crisis in unity.

“Health workers and community members alike can play a role in preventing infections by practicing regular and frequent handwashing,” he said.

Oba Akinrinmade however urged the people to stay safe and follow all guidelines to curb the spread of COVID-19 inthe state.
