Owie Augustine, better known as Blaqtalk has made a name for himself as one of Nigeria’s most promising rising stars in the entertainment industry.
A comedian and master of ceremonies from Benin, Blaqtalk has managed to capture the public’s attention through his infectious comedy and unique style.
In an exclusive interview with Friday Extravaganza, Blaqtalk sheds light on the reality behind his journey to success, including the key lesson he has learned along the way, noting hard work alone is not enough to achieve lasting wealth.
While many people view fame and financial success as the ultimate goals of a career in entertainment, Blaqtalk believes that wealth comes not just from working tirelessly but from smart, strategic effort and divine favour.
“Hard work alone won’t make you rich, You can work yourself to the bone and still have little to show for it if God’s grace isn’t on your side. Success requires a combination of hard work, smart decisions, and divine intervention.”
“My path to success has been far from straightfor-ward. When I first started in the entertainment industry, I faced a lot of rejections”.
“I even tried to join a theatre group and was turned down. But I didn’t let that deter me. I knew I had something to offer, so I kept pushing forward” he explained.
The comedian recalls his early days creating skits with a phone because he could not afford a proper camera. “I had no money for equipment, so I used my phone,” Blaqtalk said.
“But when my phone broke, I couldn’t produce content for a while. The struggle to fund my passion was real.”
For Blaqtalk, success is not just about talent but about resilience and faith. “I always pray for divine favour,” he said. “Without it, even the hardest working person can struggle. I’ve learned that the journey is more than just doing the work, it’s about aligning your efforts with the right opportunities and the right timing.”
Looking at the entertainment industry today, Blaqtalk also highlighted the importance of visibility and networking.
“Sometimes, people won’t help you unless you have the right connections or visibility. “It’s more than just creating great content. You need to ensure it reaches the right people,” he noted.
Though Blaqtalk has experienced his fair share of struggles, his story stands as a reminder that financial success in entertainment often comes down to more than just being skilled or working hard. With the right combination of talent, faith, and resilience, anyone in the industry can potentially turn their passion into lasting wealth.
As for his future, Blaqtalk remains focused on his career. “I’m still grinding and not letting anything distract me,” he said, adding that while he enjoys the attention from female fans, his primary focus is on building a legacy.
Blaqtalk credits several people as his role models, including comedians like Classy Jester, The Cute Abiola, and Woli Agba, and in music, he draws inspiration from the global success of Wizkid.
