As Nigerians grapple with the worsening economy, the Archbishop of Ondo Ecclesiastical and Bishop of Akure Anglican Diocese, Most Rev’d Simeon Borokini has charged President Bola Tinubu to re-evaluate and review his economic policies with a view to alleviating the suffering of the masses.

Bishop Borokini equally advised the Federal Government to diversify and revamp the ailing economy.
He said the review of the economy would mitigate the adverse effect of fuel subsidy removal on the people of the country.
The Archbishop also appealed to the Federal Government to stop paying lip service to the issue of security, as people are still living in fear.
Bishop Borokini made the call while delivering his Charge at the Second Session of the 14th Diocesan Synod themed, “Breaking the Shackles of Sin”, held at St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Ijare at the weekend.

He explained that citizens still struggle and battle with so many ups and downs, despite all the abundance of both human and natural resources Nigeria is endowed with; which so many nations of the world don’t have.
“ The economy is not in good shape, the cost of living is increasing by the day. Things are becoming tougher and we don’t pray it continues this way,
“We call on the government as a matter of urgency to re-evaluate and review its economic policies,” he said.

He urged the government to implement policies that would alleviate the sufferings of the people in the short, medium and long terms and create an enabling environment for entrepreneurs with favourable frameworks and policies.
The clergyman admonished the government to stop paying lip service to the issue of security, as insecurity is affecting the economy in terms of agriculture.
He said the government should intensify security so that our farmers can go back to their farms.
Speaking on the Synod theme, Borokini called on christians to come together at this critical period and address the problem of sin, which is one of the fundamental challenges of humanity
The Bishop stressed that the shackles of sin, are strong enough to tie and drag the man to damnation in the depths of hell, and believers must refuse to yield to its pressure.

Bishop Borokini reiterated that the reluctance to exercise discipline has been the reason why many Christians who are saved and sanctified are still in bondage to sin.
“Christians should sincerely allow the Holy Spirit to do a self-evaluation for them so that they can confront the issues of sin, as God desires the worship of a free people, not those held down by shackles of sin.
“The key to living and breaking free from the bondage and shackle of sin is empowerment and submission to the Holy Spirit.“
He charged believers to forsake sin and seek the face of God.
Commiserating with the people and government of the state, on the demise of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Borokini described Akeredolu’s death as shocking and devastating.
He said his good work in the State would continue to live after him.
At the synod, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa called on believers to permit a functional synergy between the church and the government, as the well-being of mankind is under the direction and guidance of God.
The Governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Segun Omojuwa said the government shall continue to look forward for the support and cooperation of the church in the collective effort to build a more virile and prosperous Ondo State.
