Herders’ attack: Ondo reads riot act, fortifies farm settlements

The Ondo State Government has ordered the Amotekun Corps to set up security posts in communities facing attacks by suspected herdsmen.
This directive was given by the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami on Wednesday in Akure, while addressing farmers from Akure North Local Government area who protested to the governor s office.
The farmers had taken to the streets following the killing of some farmers in the community.
As a measure to nip the crisis in the bud, Amotekun Corps was also instructed to send patrol teams to the affected areas to prevent further attacks.
Adelami assured the protesters that the government is working on lasting solution to the attacks, but urged them to return home while security measures were being put in place.
He acknowledged that the state has been peaceful but expressed concerns that recent events could change that. He noted that the governor had already met with security agencies to strategize but could not publicly disclose the details.
Also speaking, the state commissioner of Police ,Wilfred Afolabi said the police were working tirelessly to apprehend criminals causing unrest in the state
The commissioner while engaging the protesters at the governor’s office in Akure said that the police would not allow miscreants to take laws into their hands.
The protesters, led by the Regent of Ademekun community, Kemisola Adelowo, appealed to the government to act swiftly.
She confirmed that four farmers were killed on Wednesday, making it unsafe for others to access their farmlands. She called for justice and protection to ensure farmers could return to work without fear.
