Herdsmen attack: Lecturer killed, driver hospitalised

A lecturer at the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Dr Amos Arijesuyo was on Saturday killed by herdsmen following gunshots along Ilesa-Akure expressway.
Arijesuyo who is also a senior pastor of CAC, Glory of God branch, Akure was reportedly shot several times with his driver while returning from a trip to Ibadan.
Both Arijesuyo and the driver was rushed to an undisclosed hospital.
Meanwhile, seven persons have been remanded by an Akure Chief Magistrate over the murder of a policeman, Sergeant Apowabi Olorunfemi during the EndSARS protest in the state.
The accused persons are: Tunde Olatuja, 20, Akintade Victor, 28, Akinfolarin Alewilese, 32, Yakubu Alex, 26, Atomise Asubiaro, 24, Samson Akinrolabu 25 are facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, malicious damage and Gruesome murder.
The suspects with others at large were alleged to have committed the offence on October 22, 2020 around 8:30am at Oka area Ondo, in the Ondo State Magisterial District.
Police prosecutor, ASP Olowofeso Martins told the court that the accused persons armed themselves with guns, cutlasses, iron rods, sticks and other dangerous weapons and matcheted the deceased, Olorunfemi, 35 years old, by beating him to death.
The accused persons were also alleged of setting ablaze one Toyota Camry, property of Sergeant Olorunfemi, while they disobeyed the Ondo State Government 24hours Curfew order given by the Ondo State Governor.
The prosecutor further said that the accused persons unlawfully assembled and took part in a riot at Oka area Ondo township during the last year ENDSARS protest in the Stat
He stated that the offence contravened sections 69 and punishable under sections 71, 316, 324 and 443 (b) of Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol 1, Law of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The plea of the accused persons was not taken by the court.
The Presiding Magistrate, R. Olomola ordered the remand of the accused persons at Olokuta Correctional Centre.
She ordered the police to transfer the duplicate case file to the Ministry of Justice, DPP for legal advice.
She, thereafter adjourned the case till February 9, 2021.
