Hoodlums attack Ekiti community, injure two

Suspected armed hoodlums at the weekend invaded part of Ẹda Oniyo community in Ilejemeje local government area of Ekiti State.
The Hope Metro gathered that during the attack which lasted for several hours, two persons were severely injured.
Speaking on the attack in a statement, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr Adewale Adeniran, said the police and the representative of Army have visited the scene of the incident to assess the situation and proffer a lasting solution, as well as ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.
He said the command was not unaware of the incident that occurred at Eda Oniyo-Ekiti at the weekend, where suspected armed hoodlums invaded part of the community and fatally injured one person and left two seriously wounded.
The commissioner said adequate operatives that include the police and the military, have been deployed to the axis to ensure maximum security for the people of Eda Oniyo-Ekiti.
“Members of the public, especially the people of Eda Oniyo-Ekiti are implored to be calm and avoid taking laws into their hands as the command will ensure the arrest and prosection of those behind the attack,” he stated.
Similarly, in a statement by the Ekiti State Government, residents of Eda Oniyo in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of the state, were implored to remain calm over the attack on the community.
The State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti, assured that the situation has been brought under control.
Olatunbosun who noted that one person from the community was reportedly killed in the fracas, stressed that soldiers, police and members of the Amotekun Corps had moved to the scene immediately to curtail the crisis.
He explained that available information indicated that the boundary dispute between Eda Oniyo-Ekiti and Obo Ayegunle in Kwara State escalated when armed men from Obo Ayegunle attacked Eda Oniyo on Saturday.
The Commissioner, however, assured that additional troops had already moved to the area to protect the community while the Army formation in Kwara State has been contacted to deploy troops along Kwara side of the border in order to curtail further attack from both sides.
Reiterating the commitment of the Ekiti State Government to fostering peace and security across the state, Olatunbosun stressed the need for calm while the security agencies take charge of the situation.
Ĥe assured that the perpetrators and their accomplices would be fished out and brought to justice.
He expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the quick recovery of those affected by the incident.
