Hoping for a better Nigeria
Odion Victor. O.
The Nigeria dream of some individuals is pictured on the wellness and awareness of peace, unity, hard work, culture and value among others.
Every Nigerian is eligible to partake in the betterment and development of the country.
Some Nigerian youths have imputed a mindset of getting out of the country in search of greener pastures due to the current situation in Nigeria.
It is observed that not every Nigerian who drifts abroad to settle is sure of life of solace and stability. Many learn hastily that life on the other side is not really a comfort zone.
There are still lot of Nigerians who want to return home but can’t because they are afraid that they may come back to still deal with the mess they left behind.
What has been the answers of higher authorities towards the voice of citizens? They are supposed to contribute to the betterment of the country and not engage in the betterment of themselves; buying luxurious vehicles.
The Nigeria of our dream cannot materialize when government is not enforcing any disciplinary action against violation of human rights, embezzlement, oil theft, ballot boxes theft, kidnappings, and more.
Nigeria of our dream, when the constitution is no longer a guide towards the activities of the country, what must be the issue?
The Nigeria of our dreams which we pledged to be faithful, loyal and honest to has eventually imputed unfaithfulness, disloyalty, and dishonest act to the country’s face, which brings the question, “where are we leading ourselves to?”.
“To serve Nigeria with all our strength, whereas, citizens are serving to please themselves, due to the shape of the country, giving the impression of weakness and helplessness.
To defend our unity? When the country is divided, the situation of kidnappings, rape, prostitution, insecurities, theft, and others is now a job done by few, is that a form of unity?.
The Nigeria of our dream, with the inability to manage and develop found natural resources, re-establish and replenish into high value.
“To serve our fatherland with love strength and faith”, when our fatherland is being served with bribery and corruption which is a mantle placed on the country, because it keeps generating from generation to generation which is now seen as an open wound.
The Nigeria of our dream, where the labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain, how deep does the rabbit hole goes? that we have dug too deep that we don’t know where we are coming from and where we are heading to.
Who is to be blamed the government or ourselves?
The dream of some Nigerians is to see that every citizens ( children) have quality education so as to become the “tomorrow’s leaders”, enough job opportunities for graduates, good health facilities, and more.
The dream is to experience a united, stable and peaceful country, where ethnic and religious militancy will be a thing of the past and where there will be no basis to reward ethnic and religious militants with amnesty and government contracts.
We all dream of a country that rewards hardwork and excellence, where entrepreneurs are seen to be the richest. A dream where gender equality is considered a practice in all walks of life, where security is bagged as a necessity to the day to day activities of the country. A dream that entails good governance in the involvement of free and fair elections without violence or involvement of godfatherism.
A dream of purposeful leadership that will put national interests above individual and sectional interests. A dream that will create leaders of productive capacities of the country, including human capital, scientific ideas, instead of superstitions.
We all dream of the situation where manufacturing of commercial products and innovation take place in every aspect. A dream that will exhibit citizens to experience uninterrupted power supply and a dream of heading major international development bodies so as to strengthen the economy.
We Nigerians pray and hope for a better future.
We dream of a prosperous country where every Nigerian will live in dignity, an end comes to high levels of poverty, inequality and favouritism. The Nigeria of our dream is a country where citizens enjoy critical infrastructure, have access to good road, pipe borne water etc.
At independence in 1960, the hopes and dreams of Nigerians, both at home and abroad, were high. The promise of a brighter future and better prospects for our nation was palpable. Despite the promises, each administration faced persistent challenges, including poverty, hunger, illiteracy, youth unemployment, mismanagement, corruption. which is far from the Nigeria our founding Fathers and Mothers envisioned.
Restoring Nigeria’s glory and rescuing its citizens from hopelessness requires practical steps. It demands more than empty promises. It necessitates the eradication of corruption, a commitment to grassroots governance, investment in infrastructure, and civil service reform. Nigerians deserve a better future, and it is our collective responsibility to build the Nigeria of our dreams”.
We all hope for a great Nigeria until our leaders a shattered our dream. We became a snake that thrushes without head. Who will ever think that the Nigeria which is pronounced to flow with milk and honey now flows otherwise. What a irony! But like the preacher says, “there’s hope for a tree that’s cut down”
We still hope for a better Nigeria”.
