Ondo State Head of Service (HoS) and Co- Chairman of the Nigeria Heads of Service Football Festival, Mr Toyin Akinkuotu, has said the competition will foster unity among states in the South west.
He stated this during an interview with newsmen in Akure.
The HoS added that sports remains the most important event that engenders unity through competition.
Akinkuotu, who described the civil service as the engine room of any state, said all public servants were eligible to take part in the competition.
“We agreed that all states in the southwest must have local organising committee. We have organised sports fiesta in the state before, and it was a success.
“Sports being harbinger of progress, the event is going to promote a lot of things, such as boosting the economy of the state and upgrade sporting facilities,” he said.
Akinkuotu noted that the event would be rotated across the states of the southwest.
“The foundation of this event is very important and it is being laid in Ondo State and we will be rotating it,” he added.
Mr Seyi Akinwunmi, the Chairman, Western Nigeria Football Forum (WNFF), is co-chairing the competition’s Main Organising Committee (MOC) with Akinkuotu.
Akinkuotu, who revealed that no date had been fixed for the competition, noted that each state would come up with a male and female team to make the competition more interesting.
