Hotel workers face burglary, stealing charges

Three hotel staff, have been arraigned before an Ondo Magistrate’s Court over alleged burglary and stealing.
The accused persons: Reuben Francis, 20, Adeboyega Soledayo, 34, and Ajayi Mayowa, 36.
They allegedly committed the offence between August 17 and 30, 2020 at Moradeyo Hotel area in Ondo.
The prosecutor, Akao Moremi, said the defendants did break into the shop of one Comfort Silas and stole 36 kegs of 25 liters of Emperor groundnut oil valued N522,000.
The defendants were also alleged to have stolen other items like: 15 cartoons of five liters kings groundnut oil, valued N184,500, six cartoons of emperor groundnut oil, valued N696,600, four cartoons of three liters Emperor groundnut oil, valued N42,800, 18 cartoons of 1 liter of kings groundnut oil, valued N129,600, 90 cartoons of 1 liter of Emperor groundnut oil, valued N585,000, total valued N1,011,500.
The offence committed contravened Sections 516,411,412 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code cap 37 volume 1 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the five -count charge of burglary and stealing preferred against them.
The prosecutor applied for a date to enable him study the case file and assembly his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendants, P O Afolayan applied for the bail of his clients in the most liberal terms, saying they would stand their trial till the end of the case.
The Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N400,000 with one surety each and they must show that they are gainfully employed.
Sekoni adjourned the case till September 24, 2020 for hearing.
