Housewife docked for alleged assault in Ondo

A 42-year-old housewife, Akinbola Ronke, has been arraigned before an Odigbo Chief Magistrate Court over an alleged assault.
The Ondo State Police Command brought the defendant before Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu on a two-count charge of assault.
According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence on November 8, 2024, at about 7:00 p.m. at Zion Area, Odigbo in Ore, Ondo State.
The prosecutor, Inspector James Usifoh, told the court that the defendant assaulted one Paul Kalu by holding his shirt and using a bottle to harm him on his hand.
The offence is said to contravene Section 351 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
When the charges were read, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
In response, Usifoh sought an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and prepare witnesses for trial.
The defence counsel, Mrs. B.D. Adedugba, did not oppose the prosecutor’s application but prayed the court to grant her client bail on the most liberal terms.
Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned to November 21, 2024, for definite hearing.
