How Army Chief saved us from kidnappers – Corps members

In a remarkable act of support, the Commander of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General K.C. Uwa, provided vital assistance to six prospective Corps Members (PCMs) and three other passengers travelling from Kogi State to Jalingo, Taraba State, rescuing them from potential kidnappers.
One of the Corps members serving at the 6 Brigade narrated their ordeal, explaining that their vehicle broke down about 15 kilometres from Wukari, a local government area in Taraba State.
“The bus driver abandoned us and returned to Wukari, claiming he would come back. However, he never did,” one passenger recounted.
“We were stranded from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with no hope of leaving the middle of the bush, and no driver agreed to stop.
“Suddenly, we found ourselves surrounded by armed men alleged to be kidnappers. We didn’t see them approach or realise how they surrounded us; we only discovered we were in their midst.
“At that moment, Brigadier General Uwa stopped to rescue us. He warned us against travelling at night and stayed with us for almost an hour while trying to arrange a vehicle to take us to camp. When he couldn’t find one, he allowed us to join his escort vehicle and took us back to Wukari, where he handed us over to an officer.
“He instructed the officer to ensure we were taken care of and asked for the bill to be sent to him the next day. Not stopping there, he arranged for a car to take us to the camp the following day,” a Corps member recounted.
The Corps members expressed profound gratitude for the intervention, describing it as a morale booster that will inspire them to fulfil their service duties effectively.
One of the Corps members said, “This support has made a significant difference in our lives. We feel seen, valued, and more motivated to contribute our best to the community during our service year.”
Brigadier General Uwa highlighted the importance of supporting young Nigerians, stating, “Our youth are the future of this nation, and it is our duty to support them in every way possible.”
