The Ondo State Police Command has disclosed that the synergy it has with local vigilante groups has helped tremendously in fighting crimes in the state.
This was disclosed by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adebowale Lawal, while briefing newsmen on the efforts of the Command in stemming down crimes from the state.
He disclosed that the collaboration and corporation with the local vigilante groups assisted the command in crime prevention, detection, and prosecution.
Speaking on the rescue of three persons in captivity of kidnap suspects, the CP narrated that the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command engaged the kidnap suspects in a gun duel along the Oka–Akungba axis.
He disclosed that the three kidnapped persons were rescued after a fierce exchange of gunfire with their abductors.
According to the Commissioner of Police, one of the kidnappers was neutralised in the process, while others fled with gunshot injuries.
He disclosed that two locally-made pistols, expended cartridges, mobile phones and other personal effects belonging to the victims were recovered from the scene.
The Commissioner said “All rescued victims have since been safely reunited with their families.”
Speaking on the efforts of the command in curb crimes in the state,, Lawal said. “This operation demonstrates the Command’s rapid response capacity, effective deployment of intelligence and close collaboration with community vigilante groups in curbing kidnapping and other violent crimes within the state.
