Two mothers have narrated their ordeals and anguish they endured, when their children were stolen by individuals they once trusted, now identified as Isiaka Lookman and his accomplice, Abosede.

Alarape Abosede, a mother from Osun State, shared the harrowing story of her son, Daodu, who was abducted on October 31. The suspect, Abosede, was a former neighbour who had visited under the guise of catching up.

“She called me one day, saying she wanted to visit. I described my place to her, not suspecting anything,” Alarape recalled.

She explained that the suspect had arrived with a hair attachment, asking to be directed to a nearby salon. Alarape, unsuspecting, accompanied the woman, leaving her child behind. When she returned, her worst fear was realised her son was missing.

“Last November, the police called me from Ondo State, accusing me of being the last person to speak with Abosede. I told them she had stolen my child,” Alarape said.

Since the abduction, Alarape and her husband had travelled from state to state, from Delta to Agbor and Benin, in search of their son. Their search finally led to the suspects’ arrest in Edo State.

“When they were arrested, they confessed to selling my child to a woman in Anambra,” she said, her voice quivering with sorrow.

Asiata Atilola, another devastated mother, recounted the theft of her child on November 19, in Ipetu Ijesha. The suspect had rented a house in Asiata’s compound, under false pretences, pretending to be friendly.

“She came to rent a house, paid six months’ rent, and even fetched water to wash her room. She asked for my number, which I gave her, not suspecting anything.

“On the fateful day of the abduction, the suspect claimed she was going to buy food, but instead took one of Asiata’s sons.

“When I returned, I asked my other children where their brother was, and they said the lady had taken him. I called her immediately, but she claimed she was on her way back. That was the last I heard from her,” Asiata said.

The intervention of the police in both cases has been instrumental in the investigation.

The Ondo State Police Command, after receiving crucial information, worked relentlessly across multiple states, leading to the identification and eventual arrest of the suspects in Edo State.

The police were able to piece together the whereabouts of the abducted children, using technical expertise and intelligence gathering.

Upon the suspects’ arrest, they revealed the horrific details of how the children were sold to a woman in Anambra. The police then intensified efforts to trace the woman and secure the children.

As with Alarape’s case, the police were crucial in Asiata’s search. After receiving her report, officers launched a thorough investigation, tracing the suspect’s movements to multiple locations. The investigation, supported by strong leads, eventually helped locate and apprehend the individuals responsible for both abductions.

The two mothers now await justice, their hearts broken by the betrayal of those they once considered trusted individuals.

Meanwhile, the police have pledged to continue their efforts in bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safety of children in the community.

“We will continue to use every resource at our disposal to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice,” said CP Wilfred Afolabi, emphasizing the commitment of the police to safeguarding children and protecting families from such heart-wrenching crimes.
