Obesity is a state of being extremely overweight due to an excess of body fat or a high degree of body fat. It is one of the most common conditions that people suffer from.

Somebody can be obese if he or she has excessive body weight.

Speaking with an Health Expert, Mrs Comfort Oniyide, she described obesity as a very serious condition which gives rise to other serious health problems.

According to her, it is caused by excessive consumption of fat or unhealthy food because people don’t have time to cook anymore.

Oniyide, who is based in Akure, added that normal changes that take place in the body during teenage, pregnancy and menopause because of the imbalance can lead to obesity if its not properly handled.

She posited that obesity flows through genes from generation to generation. If the parents suffer from obesity, the children can  gain it due to heredity.

She further said that it decreases life expectancy. It is equally responsible for joint pain, increases the risk of diabetes and some women suffer from infertility due to overweight. There is also the high risk of cancer, respiratory insufficiency which may result to sudden death.

The expert noted that obesity is one of the most deadly enemies of mankind.

She called on individuals to use some fruits to wage war against obesity in order to enjoy long life.

Oniyide explained that having lemon juice and honey in water and taken first in the morning on an empty stomach daily or at night before going to bed, works fast.

She further noted that ginger is also good for weight loss as it helps to improve digestion in the stomach and stimulates  digestive enzymes.

The expert said that ginger is good for lowering cholesterol level while advising the people to chew a piece of fresh ginger daily before meal.

She hinted that cabbage is also a good source of Vitamin C, fiber, potassium and many other nutrients which can cure ulcers and control obesity.

According to her, high fiber vegetable has the fewest calories when compared with any other vegetable.

She added that when eating cabbage, it gives advantage of all its beneficial components and also stops the sugar consumed by the person.

Oniyide stressed that people who are obese should take ginger tea with honey and have it daily after meal.

To prevent obesity, the health expert called for regular physical exercise like brisk walking in the morning for at least 30 minutes or an hour, saying this will burn up unwanted calories in the body.

She further enjoined the people to eat less food, saying that instead of eating three heavy meals during the day. This will help to increase the metabolic rate of the body.

The health expert opined that taking two teaspoons of lime juice with water will help to lose weight, if frequently taken.

Oniyide explained that drinking a glass of warm water daily after every meal will also help to naturally cure obesity.

She maintained that honey with pepper and lemon juice can assist in weight loss by adding a teaspoon of honey to two teaspoons of lemon juice and a pinch pepper in a glass of water and drunk first thing  in the morning everyday.

To her, watching television and eating is a bad combination and that lying down to eat will result in overeating.
