Hunger protest: 2 killed, many injured as protesters set APC Secretariat ablaze in Jigawa

…Kano, Kaduna, Yobe, Borno states declare 24-hour curfew
Two persons were reportedly killed while many others sustained injuries after police fired live ammunition and teargas to disperse protestants in Jigawa State.
Findings by journalists showed that the protest took place in over 10 LGAs across the Jigawa State, with reports of destruction and looting of government property.
Reports in Dutse, the state capital, shows that one of the victims was shot in front of Government House, while the other was killed at Shiwarin town when the protesters attempted to close the Maiduguri-Kano Road.
The protesters also set ablaze the All Progressives Congress, APC, headquarters and burnt party vehicles in Dutse, the state capital.
In Hadejia town, a resident told newsmen that four people were admitted in hospital as a result of injuries and suffocation they suffered from teargas released by the Police.
He added that Agricultural Supply stores were looted in the area. In Gumel, the store of the state Agricultural Supply Company (JASCO), the house of the member of the House of Representatives representing Gumel, Gagarawa and Maigarati, as well as the residence of the APC Zonal Vice Chairman, were vandalized and looted by the protesters who overpowered the security agents deployed in the area.
In the same vein, the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has declared a 24-hour curfew in the state after the protest against economic hardship in the state turned violent.
This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, on Thursday.
According to the statement, the decision comes after an Emergency State Security Council meeting dedicated to addressing the escalating violence and disruptions that have emerged amid civil demonstrations.
Tofa said to safeguard lives and preserve public and private property, the decision to implement a curfew was made unanimously during the emergency meeting.
“The imposition of this curfew is a necessary measure to restore order and ensure the safety of our communities.
Similarly, the Kaduna State government has declared a 24-hour curfew after Thursday’s protests turned violent in the state.
This was after some of the demonstrators attacked and vandalised a state agency, KADEPA’s office.
Also, the Yobe State Government on Thursday imposed a 24-hour curfew in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru towns.
It was gathered the curfew was due to the ongoing #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest in the state that some hoodlums have taken advantage of to vandalise and loot government and private property in the Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Special Adviser to Governor Mai Buni, on security matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdussallam (retd.), made available to newsmen on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a 24-hour curfew has been imposed across Borno State by the police, in a swift response to the explosion that killed 16 people and injured 20 others in Kawuri in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State on Wednesday night
The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, made this known in a statement on Thursday, August 1, 2024.
Daso said the decision was made based on the bomb attack that killed many
