Husband, concubine in court for assaulting house wife

A man, Samson Awotidoye, 38 and a woman, Toyin Ademola, 35, have been arraigned in an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting his house wife.

The first accused Awotidoye, was said to be the husband of the victim, while the second accused, Toyin Ademola was his concubine.

The prosecutor, Inspector Monday Ojiezele, told the court that Samson married Toyin, while his legal wife, Victoria, was still alive and not divorced.

The prosecutor said that the defendants assaulted Victoria.

The duo, charged with three counts of conspiracy, illegal marriage and assault, were said to have committed the offence in August 2016 around 11.30 am at Ajebamidele, Ile-Ife.

The offence contravened the provisions of sections 351, 370 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The accused persons, however, applied not guilty to the charges levied against them.

The defence counsel, Mr Yemi Ijalana, pleaded for the bail of his clients in most Liberal term, promising that they will not jump bail and would provide reliable sureties.

Magistrate Olukunle Owolawi admitted the accused persons to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned till June 28, 2019 for hearing.
