Like a twist of fate,  one Joseph Momoh, has approached the Akure Customary Court seeking for the dissolution of his 25-year-old marriage with his estranged wife,  whom he accused absconding  from home  for seven years.

The plaintiff told the court that without explanation,  his wife,  relocated from his home and that he had been  pleading  with her  for over seven years, without her  coming back.

He had claimed that  her frequent fighting, was causing him shame, and frustration.

The marriage was blessed with two children; Joseph Opeyemi Momoh,23, and Joseph Ayomide Momoh,11.

The petitioner, Mr.  Joseph Momoh told the court that his wife,  Bunmi Momoh moved out of his house since July 20, 2013, after she told him she was going to Oja-Oba market, only to call after  few days of searching for her that she had moved to Ondo and vowed never to return home.

He said, ” Shortly after she left, I ran into troubles with the people she had borrowed money from, as they came with threats to cease my property as collateral. Even at a point, my eldest daughter, Opeyemi  Joseph, was arrested.

“And single handedly, I paid all the loans. Yet , I still went to beg her to return home.

“When she went to Ondo , I went there to plead with her. I took food to her,  while she was at Ibule, and I never stopped looking for her when she moved to Kajola, just to beg her, but she refused bluntly never to return.”

“But suddenly, she returned  three days ago, after she had been told that I just got a new wife. She even threatened  to burn my house if I dare divorce her.

‘ Sir, please, tell her to go, my destiny has  rejected her. “

In her defence,  Bunmi Momoh,  told the court that she left his house sometime inn2013, after a hot heated quarrel when the plaintiff hit her with turning stick.

According to her,” I prepared yam for us to eat, and after it was cooked , I told him to let us buy some eggs to make sauce. But he insisted on us using palm oil, despite  the fact that he knew I do not like eating yam with palm oil.

“So, I went on my own to make egg sauce. When it was done, I tried to serve  him. But the next thing I heard was  ‘gbas’!, a deep slap ony face.

“I fainted in my own pool of blood,’  trying to remove her blue turban ,but was restricted by the Court’s president.

“The only thing I heard when I woke up was my daughter saying, “daddy , you are lucky my mum woke up,” she concluded.

But Joseph begged the court , “Please daddy, tell her to go back to where she had been. I don’t want to marry her again,” he said amidst tears while prostrating before the court’s jury.

However , the couple’s  eldest daughter, Opeyemi Joseph, who was granted audience,  told the court why she had gone to call her mother because a new wife was about to take her place.

According to the 23-year-old girl ,” for those seven years, I knew what I passed through. I didn’t want my sister, (pointing at a girl whose head was buried in  the court’s pew) to pass through what I had passed through it.

Sir, this my father is very wicked!,  point to her  father.”

The  president of the court, Chief R.F Olusanya had to rebuked her for speaking wickedly about her dad in support of her mother.

He asked the parties to take time to explore the possibilities of reconciliation because of the children and the number of years they had known each other.

He, therefore, adjourned the case till July 23 , 2019 for a report of settlement or further hearing depending on the outcome of both parties.
