“My Lord, I must confess, I deliberately denied my husband his conjugal right because he is not a responsible man. He has left his responsibility undone.”
This and more were the words of a middle-aged roasted plantain seller, Mrs Kemi Ausi, while defending herself in a divorce suit filed by her husband, Mr Oluwatoyin Ausi.
Ausi, a 50-year-old tailor, had earlier approached the Grade B Customary Court sitting in Oba-Ile, Akure, seeking the dissolution of his 30 -years-old marriage with his wife Kemi, whom he accused of cheating on him.
The petitioner, Ausi, told the court that he was no longer interested in the marriage which has produced five grown up children.
The man told the court that his wife and her children were always causing trouble at home.
” My wife, told me that I was not the biological father of our five children in the marriage.
“She always denies me sex. Anytime I asked her for sex, she would be complaining of body pains.
The plaintiff told the court that the love he had for his estranged wife has gone sour, urging the court to admit his claims, because he is fed up with the marriage.
In her defence, Mrs Kemi Ausi, told the court that her husband had been taking care of only his extended family since they got married.
“I’m the only one responsible for our children school fees and upkeeping. My husband has turned himself into a wife at home.
“My husband is a tailor. But whenever he sews cloth for our children, he will collect his money.
She said her husband went to collect machine on instalment for their first child when he was supposed to send him to school.
The woman told the court that her husband had once told her not to cook his food again, saying he does not want any relationship with each other.
The presiding president of the court, Hon. Mrs Kikelomo Bada, ordered both parties to allow peace to reign in the society.
She appealed to the parties to take the matter back home and settle it amicably because of their children, urging the woman to have respect for her husband.
She pointed out that until the woman sees the man as her husband, she would never allow him to have sex with her.
She, thereafter, adjourned the case till April 4,2019 for definite hearing.
