I deny him sex because of AIDs –Wife

From Jimoh Ahmed, Ikare Akoko.

“My lord, I deny my husband sex for the fear of contacting HIV/AIDS. He goes for HIV test almost every week. That is why I don’t want him to have me.”

A 27-year-old-woman,  Modupe Atere told an Ikare Akoko Customary court, while responding to claims by her 45-year-old husband, Paul Oluwatumininu Afere, who is seeking the dissolution of their five-year-old association.

Modupe, a student of one of the tertiary institutions in the state told the court in her evidence that her 45-year-old husband Paul Oluwatumininu Atere is an unrepentant adulterer as he sleeps around with different women.

” I left his house because he sleeps around with different type of women. Infact he goes for anything on skirt. He is promiscuous. He even had relationships with my course mates”.

“My husband is a pharmacist, there was a day a lady came for treatment from him and treated her for free and also gave her drugs and cash”.

” I once caught him handed with a lady in our former house and I took their picture but he damaged the phone”

She, however, denied being adulterous as claimed by her husband.

“I don’t engage in illicit love affair, in fact, I have never had anything with another man since I married him.”

The mother of two denied other allegations by her husband saying they were all lies.

Modupe was, however, emotional when asked by the court if she agreed to the prayer of her husband for the dissolution of their association, as she went on her knees begging the plaintiff to take her back into his life.

“I don’t want to leave him. I still love my husband and I don’t want our kids to suffer. I want to train them  under him”.

Atere in his claim sighted frequent fighting, desertion, adultery and destruction of his properties as reasons for seeking an end to his union with the defendant.

In his evidence, the plaintiff claimed his wife has been denying him sex  since 2017.

” She has been denying me sex since March 2017. She only gives it to me just once in six months and she did not change despite intervention by her family members. She no longer shows me love “.

“She sleeps around with other men. She befriends her lecturers, despite the fact that I helped her to secure admission into the University and also pay her school fees. She also has other men in Akure.”

Atere told the court to separate them as he is no longer interested in the marriage.

He, however, prayed that the court should allow him to take custody of the children who are twins.

He said they are underage and that one of them is having a serious health challenge that requires effective management.

According to him as a pharmacist, he is in a better position to manage the child.

He also told the court that the children need adequate home training which he said their mother could give because of her academic pursuits.

The court president, Evangelist E. A. Adelabu adjourned the case for further hearing.

The case was adjourned till January 23, 2019.
