The widow of the late Flight Sergeant Olasunkan Olawumi, Mrs. Omolola Olawumi has explained that she only enjoyed her marriage with her late husband only in two years out of the ten years of their union.
Mrs Olawumi spoke in an exclusive interview with The Hope Metro shortly after she returned from Abuja where she attended the burial ceremony of her late husband.
While lamenting the untimely death of her late husband, she recalled that they were having good and rosy time while living together in Ado-Ekiti, until 2011 when he was employed in the Nigeria Air Force.
Her words: “The untimely death of my husband has brought a great setback to my life and that of our three children. Though we were not living together until the unfortunate incident, but we always got in touch in every two hours.
“Few minutes before the plane crash, my husband called me while I was going to church to inform me that he was in company of other six senior colleagues to Minna, the capital of Niger State. He said they would be going back to Abuja, the Federal Capital territory in few minutes and that he would inform me as soon as they get to Abuja.”
It will be recalled that the Beechcraft King B350 aircraft crashed while returning to Abuja Airport after reporting engine failure enroute Minna and the seven occupants lost their lives in the crash.
The mother of three and a civil servant in Ekiti State, who was still in shock said she was with him in Abuja during the Christmas and New Year celebrations last December, but little did she know that would be the last time she would see him.
Similarly, the aged father of the late Flight Sergeant, Pa Julius Olawumi, who spoke from his home town, Ogotun-Ekiti, Ekiti South-West local government of the state, said the late Air Force officer had earlier called him on phone on the fateful day before the incident happened.
The 75-year-old man described the death of his son as a great loss, not only to his family alone, but to the entire Ogotun-Ekiti community, where he grew up.
According to him, the town has lost one of his prominent and promising sons whose efforts in making peace, love and unity to reign in the family will never be forgotten.
