The flagbearer of the People’s Democracy Party, PDP, for October 10, 2020 gubernatorial election in Ondo state, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN has described Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as a respected legal practitioner and a leader he has much respect for.
Jegede, who was speaking on a radio programme monitored in Akure yesterday, said Governor Akeredolu is doing his best.
“I have a lot of respect and regard for him as the governor.
I don’t expect less from him. He is a very forthright person. He speaks his mind, the way it comes.
“Even if you do not like the governor, you must credit him with this fact that he will say whatever comes from his heart and to that extent, I thank him for those compliments.
“I also thank others, who have not expressed it or do not have the opportunity to express it openly. I thank him again. I have a lot of respect for him. He is doing his best”, Jegede noted.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria also described the relationship between him and his former boss, Dr Olusegun Mimiko as cordial, despite the latter supporting candidate on the platform of the Zenith Labour Party, Agboola Ajayi.
His words, “Cordial! You know Dr Mimiko is more elderly than myself. He is a politician to the core. I acknowledge my limitations when it comes to politics.
“Leaders, politicians and individuals have the right to determine the trajectory they want to follow. They will choose whom they want to support at a particular time and whom not to support.
“That does not mean that the relationship is not cordial. It is just a question of political interest.
“My own political interest for now is for the people of Ondo state and I want to say that we must shift away from anything that does not have to do with the interest of the people.
He however appealed to the good people of Ondo state to shun violence and ensure they come out en masse to cast their votes come October 10, 2020.
“10th of October is a very critical day in our lives, for our children and our future. We must come out and cast out votes. Those who are advocating violence want to instill fear in the people.
“I am not saying that there are not some people who are violent and it is not about a matter of category. Violence can be demonstrated by anyone.
“Let me say this, we should vote, stand by our votes and leave the rest to INEC. They should have no fear, absolutely no fear”, he said.
