History was again made on Wednesday as the Ondo state Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, was sworn-in for a second term in office.
He was sworn-in alongside the new Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The Oaths of Office were administered on the duo by the state Chief Judge, Justice Olutoyin Akeredolu, in company of their wives and children at the colourful event held at the International Culture and Events Centre (The DOME), Akure, the Ondo state capital.
Delivering his address entitled, “Pathway to Redemption” shortly after he was sworn-in, Akeredolu who could not hide his joy praised the Lord for not abandoning him throughout his first tenure, just as he promised to rededicate himself to the service of the state and never take for granted the confidence reposed in him by the people.
The venue of the epoch-making event was full to the brim as family members, political associates and well wishers within and outside the state thronged the venue to identify with them.
The Governor disclosed that his administration’s first term policy trust has been reviewed and stepped up from JMPPR to REDEEMED to ensure more improvement in service delivery, stressing that his administration is irrevocably committed to setting the state on the path of real growth and development.
The second term policy trust christened ‘REDEEMED’ means;
R -Rural and Agricultural Development
E -Educational Advancement and Human Capital Development
D -Development through Massive Infrastructure
E -Efficient Service Delivery, Development and Policy Implementation
E -Effective Healthcare and Social Welfare Services
M -Maintenance of Law and Order for Adequate Security
E -Energy, Mining and Sustainable Industries
D -Digital Revolution and Entrepreneurship.
Akeredolu explained that, A lot of dynamics have come into play since we took over the reins of governance in 2017. You will all agree with me that the challenge of security has become more encompassing than it used to be.
“The need to place more emphasis on availability of energy for our industrial development has also become greater. This new focus has necessitated the need for us to review our JMPPR to cater for these areas necessary for our development.
Akeredolu who highlighted his numerous achievements in the last four years in all sectors including quality healthcare services, agriculture, industrialisation, massive road infrastructure, improved welfare of the citizens, urban renewal, security of lives and property, among several others, further promised to proceed, with keener enthusiasm, to justify the renewal of his mandate to serve the people.
Akeredolu appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari and the national leaders of the APC for their support at all times.
He noted that as a way of protecting the lives and property of the citizens against all forms of insecurity, the South-West Governors established Amotekun Corps, saying the regional security outfit has done well and justified its establishment.
The Governor who admitted that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a deleterious effect on the global economy, however, assured that his administration would focus on agriculture and youth empowerment through entrepreneurship.
“This has led us to the establishment of the Ondo State Entrepreneurship Agency (ONDEA). We intend to revolutionise agriculture taking it beyond theory and anchoring all expectations on practicals”, Akeredolu emphasised.
Present at the inauguration ceremony were Governors of Ekiti State; Dr Kayode Fayemi; Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Osun state, Gboyega Oyetola; Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun and Edo State; Godwin Obaseki.
Other dignitaries included the National Leaders of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; the pioneer Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, Traditional rulers, religious leaders, technocrats and politicians across the country.
