‘I perform in churches without requesting payment’

By Adeboye Ado

A popular gospel artiste in Akoko, Agesin Abiodun, also known as Abbey Wonder, has stated that he has never demanded money before performing in churches.

In lieu of payment, Abiodun said he freely exhibits his talent to win souls and also supports churches that are in dire need of funds.

The musician, who disclosed this during an exclusive interview with Friday Extravaganza, urged other gospel artistes to emulate such a gesture.

He said, “I do not charge any money from churches before performing. I’ve heard that there are some musicians who request payment before agreeing to perform in churches, bringing along their full crew.

“However, I believe this is not how it should be. For me, it’s about using the talent God has given me to serve Him, not to seek financial gain from performing in His house.

“God has blessed me with this ability, and I feel it is my duty to share it without asking for compensation.

“When I perform in church, my goal is to touch lives, to inspire, and to win souls for God, rather than focusing on how much I am being paid.

“I find fulfilment in knowing that my music can have a positive impact on others, especially in a place of worship.

“Though I have not yet reached the height of my career, I acknowledge that I still need financial support to invest in high-quality instruments and equipment for improvement.

“However, I believe it’s more important to give back to the church than to take from it. I encourage my fellow musicians to adopt the same mindset, putting God and service above personal financial gain.”
